What the First Month of Building Ego Co. Actually Taught Us

Starting Ego Co. has taught us a lot in a very short amount of time. Not even just about business, honestly. More about ourselves.
When we first decided to start Ego Co., we definitely had this idea of what working for yourself would feel like. More freedom, more creativity, more flexibility, more ownership over our time. And while that’s true in a lot of ways, what surprised us most was how important structure became almost immediately.
One of the biggest lessons this month has been realizing that freedom means nothing without routines that actually support you. When nobody else is creating your schedule anymore, you suddenly become responsible for everything. Your priorities, your energy, your momentum, your focus, your time management… all of it.
At first, that felt exciting. Then it felt overwhelming. Then eventually, it started feeling empowering.

The first few weeks honestly felt a little chaotic. Some days we felt incredibly productive and inspired, and other days we felt completely scattered. We realized pretty quickly that creativity alone is not enough to build something sustainable. You need systems. You need discipline. You need habits that keep you grounded even on the days where motivation disappears.
For us, routine has become a huge part of that.
We’ve learned that the days feel better when we start them intentionally instead of immediately reacting to everything around us. Movement has become a really important part of that process. Yoga sculpt, walks, getting outside before opening emails, anything that helps us feel clear headed before the day starts moving too fast.
Also, planners and time blocking have fully become part of our personalities at this point.
Before this, we both used to associate productivity with constantly being busy. Answering emails immediately, multitasking, trying to do everything at once, filling every hour of the day just to feel accomplished.
But this month taught us there’s a huge difference between being busy and actually building something meaningful.
A lot of people spend their days doing things that look productive without actually feeling connected to what they’re creating. And we both started realizing that before Ego Co. even existed.
With Ego Co., the work feels different. There’s more uncertainty, more responsibility, and definitely more pressure at times, but there’s also more excitement. More creativity. More purpose behind what we’re doing.
Every day feels new. We’re constantly brainstorming, creating, refining ideas, solving problems, learning in real time, and building something that feels aligned with the kind of life we actually want.
And honestly, that feeling alone has made the risk worth it.
Another thing we’ve learned is that not everyone is going to understand what you’re building while you’re building it. Some people won’t see the vision right away. Some people will think leaving something stable is irresponsible. Some people will project their own fears onto you without even realizing it.
And honestly, we’ve learned that’s okay too.
This month forced us to stop focusing so much on how life looks from the outside and start paying more attention to how it actually feels. Because from the outside, building a business can look messy or uncertain. But staying somewhere that no longer feels aligned can slowly drain you too.
That doesn’t mean we always feel confident. We definitely don’t. There are still moments where we compare ourselves to other people or question whether we’re moving fast enough.
But we’re learning that confidence usually isn’t loud. Sometimes it’s just continuing to show up for something before there’s proof it’s going to work.
That’s probably the biggest thing this first month has taught us.
Keep showing up.Keep building.Keep refining.Keep trusting yourself enough to continue.
Because building something meaningful is a lot less glamorous than social media makes it look. Most of it happens quietly. Inside routines, late nights, uncomfortable conversations, messy schedules, trial and error, planners full of ideas, and continuing to work even when everything still feels uncertain.
And honestly, we think that’s the part nobody talks about enough.
We’re still figuring things out. Still learning. Still adjusting. Still building systems that work for us instead of trying to force ourselves into routines that don’t.
But for the first time in a long time, the work feels aligned with who we’re becoming.
And right now, that feels like enough reason to keep going.
So here’s to the first month of Ego Co. The messy middle, the growth, the discipline, the creativity, the self doubt, the momentum, the routines, and all the parts in between.
We’re still building.
And honestly, we think that’s the best part.
